"As a Police Sketch Artist/Forensic or Composite Artist, it’s my job to work with victims or witnesses of crimes to create a drawing of an unknown suspect. All drawings start with me interviewing the victim or witness, which includes the person looking at reference photos that show different facial features. The victim or witness will pick out the individual facial features that best resemble the perpetrator's features and then I draw them to assemble the face. It’s kind of like building a “Mr. Potato Head” in that I draw each individual facial feature to assemble the complete face. I then work with the victim or witness to make changes and refine the drawing. While, it’s nearly impossible to construct a perfect portrait of the perpetrator,
the process works quite well and has led to many positive outcomes."
